How strict is Thai Airways with baggage allowance?

Thai Airways has always been strict with its baggage allowance and if you go oversized or overweight, then some relevant charges will apply. Thai Airways baggage policy:

The airline has divided its baggage into Carry-on and checked baggage. If you want to learn additional details regarding them, including the weight or dimension limit, then the following is all the necessary information:

Carry-on baggage 

The carry-on baggage goes to the overhead locker, and for safety purposes, only one carry baggage is allowed per passenger to carry in the cabin. First or Business class ticket holders and Gold status Star Alliance members are provided with two carry-on baggage while the rest of the passengers are allowed with one. • The maximum weight allowed for a carry baggage is 15 lbs (7 kg).
• The dimensions of the carry-on baggage must not exceed 56 cm X 45 cm X 25 cm (Length X Width X Thickness) including the handles and wheels.
• Any kind of liquid, gel or aerosol has to be kept in the container and the quantity should not be more than 100 ml.
• Carry-on baggage should be kept carefully in the overhead locker, as it may fall on you or any other passenger during turbulence.

Checked Baggage 

The checked baggage is the large-sized baggage that is transported through the cargo. Each passenger is allowed with checked baggage, but its provided limit and maximum weight may depend on the ticket class and destination. Go through the given details to learn about the checked baggage:

• Royal First, Royal Silk, and Economy class passengers who are flying internationally to/from Canada or the USA are provided with two checked baggage. However, passengers traveling with an infant who is not occupying any seat can take one checked baggage for free.

             - First Class: 32 kg - 50 kg

             - Business class: 32 kg- 40 kg

             - Economy Plus: 23 kg - 35 kg

             - Economy Class: 20 kg to 35 kg 

             - Infant Occupying seat: 10 - 23 kg

• The dimensions of the checked baggage should be within 168 cm (62 inches), including the Length + Width + Height.
• Large-size musical and sports equipment, such as a Guitar, Violin, Golf bag, cricket kit, etc, is considered checked baggage and charged accordingly.

What if my luggage is 1 kg overweight?

When you check-in the baggage at the airport, if it is overweight by even 1 kg, then you need to pay some extra charges. For domestic flights the airline charges around 1.5% of the highest direct normal Economy ticket and you will be charged around $15 per kg for extra baggage. To purchase the excess baggage online, you must do it at least 24 hours before the flight.

What items are not allowed on a Thai Airways flight?

The airline has prohibited a few items from being carried on the flight for security reasons. So, make sure that you do not have any of these listed items in your baggage:

• Explosives liquids or solids.
• Firearms or guns. like pistil, rifle, taser gun etc.
• Radioactive materials.
• Infectious or poisonous substances such as weed-killers, insecticides, etc.

When arriving at the destination, if you are not able to find your baggage at the airport, then report it to the airline by filling out the lost baggage form online or reaching customer service. You need to provide the requested details and as soon as your baggage is found, Thai Airways will deliver it to your house.
